Stichting Vakantiespelen: a stable website and complete IT, sponsored by Matreon

From its office in Hoorn, Stichting Vakantiespelen organizes activities for children in the north-east of North Holland, and is run entirely by volunteers. When sign-ups for their activities opened, their website couldn't handle the load and went down.

They also needed a new home for their internal photo albums: nearly 100,000 photos, together almost 700 GB. Their previous hosting provider considered this excessive use under their fair use policy and no longer wanted to host the albums.

One of our employees volunteers at the foundation and offered to help.

Since April 2024, the websites and photo albums of Stichting Vakantiespelen run on one of our Cloud VPSs. Later we also moved their phone system, to a second Cloud VPS running 3CX.

We now take care of all their IT: from laptops and phones to the software they need and their Microsoft 365 environment. We advise on software that suits their work, and occasionally help with small development projects.

In the summer of 2025 we set up their new phone system with an external provider for the phone numbers. When the summer activities started, the connection turned out to be less stable than promised. Within a day, we moved everything to a new provider, so parents could reach the organization when the first children of that year arrived the next day.

The website now stays up during sign-ups, and the websites are 2 times faster, without any optimization of the websites themselves. The foundation has room to run the tools it needs, and their photos have a permanent home.

As a result, more than 1,100 children enjoy the summer activities every year, and thanks to us their parents can reliably reach the organization.

Matreon sponsors all of this: the foundation pays €1 a year. It is our way of giving back to society. We help the foundation work more digitally, while their money keeps going to what matters most: the children.

What the foundation values most is the professional service, the support of IT specialists without having to foot the bill, and quick help whenever it's needed.
